With winter right around the corner, now is the time to start thinking about a fall clean up. Here are some simple tips that can make your fall clean up easier or provide you with an overview of what we do to a property to get it ready for winter.
Those wonderful leaves:
Depending on the trees that surround your property you may be in for long fall if you have a lot of leaves. One tip is to not wait for the leaves to accumulate, continue to mow your lawn. This will mulch the small amount of leaves that have accumulated on your lawn provide nutrients for the rest of the fall.
Feed the lawn:
While mulching leaves with your lawn mower will provide some nutrients your lawn needs. A better way is applying a slow release fertilizer to your lawn, as well as removing weeds that have sprouted in your lawn.
The heavy traffic your lawn sees throughout the summer causes the ground below your grass causing water to run off instead of being absorbed into the soil. Perforating your lawn with an aerator provides many benefits such as reducing compaction and allows air, water and fertilizer to reach the soil which in turn strengthens the roots of the grass.
After the first hard frost is the best time to remove your annuals. You can remove them by giving a firm tug at the base of the stem.
